This is the website of harmonica maker Zombor Kovacs. I was born in the capital of Hungary, Budapest where I am still living. I graduated at the Technical University of Budapest as a mechanical engineer and I always loved music. During university years I was already an avid boogie-woogie dancer and in 2003 I bought my first harmonica from Mátyás Pribojszki. Soon I got intrigued by the internal workings of the instrument and besides practicing day and night and becoming a guest player in several bands, I started to disassemble them, repair them customize them and come up with my own designs. During this crazy period did I get to know my good friend Brendan Power, with whom we started x-reed.com which was probably the most exhilarating time of my life. Extra reed harmonicas is still my focus - hence the name extraharps - I am manufacturing my harmonicas with a variety of modern day machinery, a CNC milling machine, a CO2 lasercutter, a fiber laser engraver, a vinyl cutter and a 3D printer.
